spring (?) arrivals

Postby Cindee » Mon Feb 27, 2017 3:46 pm

I've had 2 Red-wing Blackbirds coming to the feeders all weekend and today I saw a flock of 6 Grackles. They have misread the calendar for sure.

Cindee, we have many red winged blackbirds and grackles here in Genesee Co..
Cardinals are in the treetops singing their Spring songs. Hopefully, they know
something we don't !!

Hope you are right Dale! I'm ready for this crazy freeze-thaw-freeze again weather to stop.

No Spring arrivals here yet.... Even with "warmish" weather, lake is still frozen solid. A few small flocks of geese flying over.

Going down I-75 last week to Detroit, did count 17 Red Tail Hawks! Only three sitting in trees... the other 14 were what looked like mating pairs doing "the dance". Had one Bald Eagle over Supply Road near the Boardman... another "led" me down M-72 into Grayling near where the Manistee and Au Sauble cross the road.

And, Cindee.... you are welcome to keep the Grackles! LOL!

Robins may be spring arrivals but I know that a lot stayed around all winter. I had one in the yard in January. Stupid bird. If I had wings, I'd be somewhere warm.

I too, have had the Redwings for a week or so now. Also, Tree Sparrows and a couple of Grackles. The Chickadee's are doing their spring songs.

Platte River Eagles

The Eagles returned and "foo foo'd" up their nest at the Platte River State Hatchery a couple of weeks ago! I've not been over there yet.... but saw (on the web cam) that the first egg was laid last night about 8:00 pm!

Two chicks successfully fledged last year, so hoping for success again in 2017!
