Snowy Owl- Emmet County

Postby Rick Baetsen » Sun Nov 12, 2017 2:04 pm

On a trip to Petoskey this morning, November 12th, I observed a Snowy Owl in the usual late Autumn/ early Winter location. It was on top of one of the tall utility poles on Lears Road, that runs between Wal-Mart and Lowes. It was heavily speckled. The Snowy Owls that often are found here in early winter, typically do not stay long.

A flock of a dozen to 15 Dark-eyed Juncos showed up under the feeders mid last week, one day before the second snow storm of the season dropped a few inches.

And a flock of American Turkeys, 18 of them, have been around near the house, digging through the snow to find acorns and beechnuts.

Hi Rick,
Donna had been asking me about Snowies recently. Looks like they are really on the move now.
