Peregrine Falcon-Alger County

This past Tuesday evening, after a hike along Miner's Beach at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Bonnie and I stopped at the overlook at Miner's Castle. It was a very calm evening out over Lake Superior. With Bonnie's good hearing, mine not so much, she could hear a bird calling down along the rock cliffs to the west of the viewing platform. So, we hiked through the woods and eventually I could hear it as well. We snuck in close enough to see an adult Peregrine Falcon perched in a White Birch tree overhanging the rock cliffs. We got good looks as we got within about 25 feet. Last year we got a more distant look at one perched above the rock cliffs east of Chapel Rock and again located it due to its calling. Nice to know that they have returned to the rock cliffs of Pictured Rocks.
