North American Migratory Count (NAMC) 5/11/13

Postby Russ Emmons » Sat Apr 20, 2013 2:29 am

Annual North American Migratory Count (NAMC) this year will be Saturday May 11th. This count is always the second Saturday in May across North America. Similiar to the Audubon Christmas Counts (CBC) but are done by county rather then the 15 mile diameter circle.
Not all Michigan countys have a count but those that do almost all need participants for complete & thorough coverage. People who can do just a feeder count in their county are welcome & encouraged. Here in St. Clair county, being a quite large county we always have Twps. and areas needing coverage. This year in particular I'd like to get someone to do Harsens Island--a noted "Important Bird Area" (IBA)

Any MI NAMC county compiler is asked to list their contact info here, otherwise a list of county compilers is on the Michigan Audubon website http://www.michiganaudubon.org www.michiganaudubon.org/research/survey ... index.html for anyone interested in participating.
I know MBN members Charlie Weaver is compiler for Crawford county; Brian Allen is compiler for Manistee; and yours truly for St. Clair county birdeland@comcast.net to name a few.

Wow, sorry I didn't see this sooner. I'm beginning a Charlevoix County count this year and although we won't be sending out any teams this year due to lack of volunteers and late planning, if anybody in the Charlevoix area would like to send me counts from their feeders or favorite birding patch I would appreciate it. Also, anybody who is interested in joining us next year when I hope we will be able to send out a couple of teams to bird the county, please let me know as well. My email is lawsodw_at_gmail.com, just replace _at_ with @ of course.

Thank you.

Yes---LAST CALL, reminder, update for Saturdays count. Most countys need field participants, feeder counters. Anyone interested or willing to participate in this annual count check the county list for countys & compilers to contact on the Michigan Audubon website. Not all Michigan countys do this count and I see Darrel is now compiler for Charlevoix county. Darrel--it's not too late to get some coverage at least for this years count. They will take whatever you all can get covered. I remember Syl & I & our youngest daughter did St. Clair county alone for several years when the count first began continentwide back in 1992
I know we still have several Twps. open in St. Clair county needing coverage this year.
