Birds around your backyard

Postby Cindee » Sat Apr 08, 2017 1:06 pm

First EXCITING spring bird of the season showed up in the yard on Thursday, a beautiful male Eastern Towhee. He stayed around for several hours, unfortunately I haven't see him since. Also new to the yard this spring was a Song Sparrow. I thought I saw a Chipping Sparrow the other day too but I haven't seen it again.

Tree Sparrows and Juncos are still around. Goldfinches are in varying stages of molt too, many very blotchy. Lots of Red-wings, Grackles, and even a few cowbirds. Turkey Vulture buzzed through yesterday too. Hopefully the sunshine this weekend will bring more of our 'spring beauties' back.

Nice to see the birds are moving North. We have had all of your birds mentioned
for about a week, with the exception of the towhee. But a friend had one in the
thumb last week. Noticed today that our White breasted Nuthatch are building a
nest. Waiting for the House Wren to come in any day now.
