White Showy Ladyslipper

White Showy Ladyslipper

Postby Rick Baetsen » Fri Jun 27, 2014 8:08 pm

Following a tip from a fellow orchid enthusiast I went back to a patch of the Showy Lady Slippers I searched through on Wednesday and today located a nearly all white form of the Showy Lady Slipper. There were several hundred of them in the moist muck soils along a roadside edge of where the road cuts through a large tamarack and white cedar swamp. There are some rose colored speckles inside the slipper but it otherwise is pretty much white.

Hope to spend time soon looking for the white forms of the Arethusa or Dragon's Mouth Orchid and Calopogan or Grass Pink as they are about to start blooming anytime now.
