Rose Pogonia-Two Flowered

While out at Vermillion Station when Bonnie is counting butterflies for her NABA 4th of July butterfly count I always stray away to check on some orchids. This year things have gone from being way behind due to the long and cold winter to now being ahead of schedule in butterfly first flight dates and blooming of wildflowers. Most the Rose Pogonia I found were past peak and showing brown spots and withering but I did locate a few fresh ones in shaded areas in the wet dune swales. The one in the attached image caught my attention as it had a second flower or bloom starting on an individual plant. I had not observed this before so I looked it up, and the literature indicated it was very uncommon to rare. I always have harsh midday bright sunlight at time we are out at Vermillion on the butterfly count route, but I had Bonnie create a little shade for me to get this image.
