I made a trip to the UP last weekend with Eric (ekfelton). On the way up to Seney we ran into this little gal on Hwy 2. She was trying to eat what was left of some road kill and didn't seem to want to leave. We figured after pulling the truck over that she would head for the woods, but not only did she not care, she also stuck around long enough for us to get camera and tripods out of the truck and set up. She would run to the woods every time a car would come by, but didn't seem to care at all about getting her photo taken.
Our main goal of this trip was to see if the flowers were blooming on the creek banks by the waterfalls yet...we were too early, so will have to try again in a couple weeks. Our backup plan was to do the wildlife drive at Seney NWR, but that didn't work because it is closed until May 15th and they had this guy guarding the gate. Needless to say, we were not going to mess with this guy
We did walk in about 3 miles or so to see if we could find any Loons and we got lucky and found a pair on Pool E. Got a few shots but still have to process them to see if they are any good. We made a trip up to the White Birch Forest and checked out some of the inland lakes on the Lake Superior shore area. We happen to find one that had 2 pair of Bufflehead ducks and 2 pair of Loons. We got some decent photos of the Buffleheads on Saturday evening, but the Loons were way to far out. So, we came back early on Sunday morning and were able to sneak around the lake and get into a position for some relatively close shots...well, closer than the night before anyway.
Everyone have a good week,
