UP, Friday & Saturday

One last trip up to UP, heading out of town for three weeks with work. Owls might be gone by the time I get back! Friday I carried a pop-up blind in, about 1.5 hrs before sunrise. Temp was 14F. It was cold!I had a female land before sunrise :W on one of the fence post I was set up at, maybe 40 feet from blind. Started taking photos as soon as I could. ISO 800, shutter speed 1/50 of a second. Lens Pentax 560, F5.6. As the sun finally came up, ISO @ 400, 1/500 shutter speed. Just as things would get better (8:15) a farmer friend came down the seasonal road to go plow his barn & kids place. I was hoping for another hour of photo opps. Did take close to 100 in about .5 hr time frame. There are between 15-20 birds in the area, but they are not spending much time on telephone poles. You really have to look hard to find them on the ground.

Nice shots Kim. We were there in the afternoon all three days. They were hard to find in that they were mostly on the ground. From that house on 20 Mile off Centerline we could see one on a post, one on a pole and one on a roof, on Thursday. Friday there were 2 on the ground on 20 Mile and one in a tree top on Centerline. Saturday we saw the 2 on the ground on 20 Mile and I can't remember where the third one was but it was on a pole far out in the field.

Did you see my truck both mornings on 20 mile? Was also there for awhile on Friday afternoon in my blind, then headed to Centerline to photo ones in pine trees.
