Near sunset bumblebee invasion....

Postby wngrigg » Mon Jun 27, 2016 9:29 pm

A friend of mine told me today that she is unable to sit on her west-facing deck prior to sunset, as the area is overrun with bumblebees... Hundreds, flying into and landing on the roof edge and siding. The neighbor has the same problem, being overrun with bumblebees. Anyone heard of this happening before? I won't recommend a insecticide, but I know that she is looking into this...

I know nothing about the life histories of feral bumblebees to offer any assistance, but hope someone can offer advice...

Thanks - Bill Grigg.

Interesting. I don't believe I've ever seen Bumblebees in herds.

Nothing unusual here... about normal numbers of all the bees, hornets, wasps.

I do wonder what would cause bumbles to do that tho....

Are those bumble bees or carpenter bees? Carpenter bees can do a lot of damage.
